Enugu Communities Face Six-Day Planned Power Outage
Residents and businesses in several communities across Enugu State are set to experience scheduled electricity interruptions from November 5 to November 10, 2026, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carries out maintenance work at its Nsukka station.
Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL), a subsidiary of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, announced the planned outage on October 26. According to the company’s spokesperson, Emeka Ezeh, the interruption will occur daily between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to allow TCN’s technical team to maintain equipment at the station.
The maintenance will affect customers connected to the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), SUMAS, and Orba 33kV feeders. Communities listed by MEDL include Nsukka, Opi Agu, Eha-Alumona, Orba, Obollo-Afor, Enugu Ezike, Ibagwa, Obukpa, Uzo-Uwani, Obimo, Lejja, Aku and Ogbede, alongside several surrounding areas.
The outage is expected to affect households, businesses, markets and institutions that depend on electricity during the scheduled hours. Small businesses that rely on refrigeration, electrical equipment and other power-dependent operations may need to make alternative arrangements during the maintenance period.
MEDL said the exercise is necessary to support improvements in the reliability and quality of electricity supply. The company apologised for the inconvenience and appealed to affected customers for patience and understanding while the work is carried out.
Separately, MEDL attributed a recent decline in electricity supply across much of Enugu State to reduced power generation, which has lowered system frequency and prompted TCN to ration available energy. The company said the reduced allocation had limited its ability to meet normal supply commitments.
The planned maintenance highlights the role of transmission infrastructure in delivering electricity to homes and businesses. While scheduled work can temporarily disrupt supply, its intended benefit is to maintain equipment and support more reliable electricity delivery over time.
Affected customers are advised to plan for the daily outage window and monitor official updates from MEDL for any changes to the schedule.
