Dangote Petroleum Refinery has increased its Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) gantry price from ₦1,185 to ₦1,200 per litre, effective August 26, 2026.

The latest ₦15 increase is the refinery’s second petrol price adjustment in less than a week. On August 21, Dangote had raised its gantry price from ₦1,165 to ₦1,185 per litre. This brings the total increase to ₦35 per litre within five days.

The refinery also increased its coastal delivery price from ₦1,562,265 to ₦1,582,380 per metric tonne and directed customers to return existing Authorisation to Collect documents for repricing before loading resumes.

The latest adjustment comes as international crude prices have been falling. On Tuesday, Brent crude was reported at about $88.37 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate stood at around $82.13. Dangote Refinery has not publicly stated the specific reason for the latest increase.

Although the new ₦1,200 figure is the refinery’s gantry price, it does not automatically mean petrol will sell at that price across Nigerian filling stations. Marketers still have to factor in transportation, logistics and other downstream costs, which can push the final pump price higher.

The latest increase adds fresh pressure to Nigeria’s fuel market, where petrol prices continue to influence transportation costs, household spending and the operating costs of businesses.

Beyond the immediate impact on motorists, repeated fuel-price adjustments are also keeping the conversation around alternative energy and transportation solutions alive. As the cost of petrol remains volatile, options such as electric mobility, renewable energy and more efficient transport systems could become increasingly important to Nigeria’s long-term energy transition.
