Adamawa Inaugurates 300 Electric Tricycles
The Adamawa State government has inaugurated 300 electric tricycles for commercial use.
The tricycles, which were issued at half the prevailing fares, are to be used at the initial phase in Yola, the state capital, as well as communities in Numan Local Government Area, were provided under a scheme termed Affordable Transport Solution (ATRaS), an investment of a private firm, P-GAT Industries Limited, in partnership with the state government.
Chairman of the firm, Prime Timothy, during a summit, said, ATRaS is an answer to the prevailing high cost of transport fares in Nigeria.
“The situation is so bad that many people have had to give up their jobs because transport fare takes so much from their salary that it becomes worthless,” Timothy said.
He said his company took five years of planning to arrive at ATRaS, and that it is designed to provide an integrated transport system for all the states of the Northeast in the initial years.
The summit also had representatives of the governments of the six Northeast states in attendance.
