Nigeria Spent N400bn on Solar Products in 2025

The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said Nigeria spent over N400bn importing solar products in 2025.

Halilu, who disclosed this, decried this nation’s dependence on importation, adding that more than N200bn has been spent so far in 2026.

He noted that beyond reducing importation costs, there’s a need to close the production gap.

Halilu said the agency’s goal is to reduce imports, create jobs, and strengthen Nigeria’s energy security.

The CEO said NASENI, working alongside the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) under the President’s Nigeria First Policy, will supply locally manufactured solar solutions for electrification projects to be done by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
