FG Secures $100m Fund for Mini-Grid Projects Across North Central — Minister
The Federal Government, through the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) in collaboration with the World Bank, has secured nearly $100 million in funding for mini-grid projects across the region.
Minister of Steel Development, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, made the disclosure over the weekend while performing the groundbreaking ceremony for a 20-megawatt mini-grid power project in Egume, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, described as the largest mini-grid power project in North Central Nigeria.
Audu also commissioned two additional mini-grid projects in Kogi East—a 700-kilowatt facility in Offa Community, Olamaboro Local Government Area, and a 400-kilowatt mini-grid in Emewe Efopa Community, Dekina Local Government Area.
The projects aim to stimulate economic growth, improve security, and enhance residents’ quality of life.
Audu noted that the initiative, tagged “Light Up Kogi,” seeks to bridge the electricity gap in underserved communities while creating opportunities for businesses, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions to thrive.
