The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has sustained its routine Compliance Peer Review Meetings, reiterating its commitment to enforcing regulatory standards and maintaining zero tolerance for non-compliance among licensees in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
The Commission reiterated this at a meeting with participants, regulatory and compliance officers from across the power sector, chaired by NERC Commissioner for Legal, Licensing and Compliance, Dafe Akpeneye.
Key areas of focus during the meeting included:
- Performance reviews and peer comparisons among regulatory and compliance officers to encourage continuous improvement.
- The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into regulatory and operational compliance processes within the power sector.
- Review of the overall compliance scorecards of licensees in NESI.
- Status of health and safety report submissions from December to date.
- Progress on metering across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.
- Regulatory compliance requirements relating to market obligations.
- Reporting obligations of on-grid licensees to the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO).
The two-day Compliance Peer Review Meeting brought together regulatory and compliance officers from across the electricity value chain, including generation companies, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), distribution companies, NISO, the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET), and other industry stakeholders.
